October 31, 2004Jeff Pitre and Jeremy Cryer became friends while working for the Westlake Police Department; but in the race for the position of top cop, it a serious competition.Jeremy Cryer: “It looks good for me and I expect to win.”Jeff Pitre: “I do have a chance of winning.”Each man strongly believes he has what it takes to lead the force. Pitre says, “I been employed with the Westlake Police Department for 17 years. I know the community. I went through the ranking system. I was a sargent, I now the lieutenant over there and supervisor on patrol.” But Cryer says he qualified as well: “My combination of education and experience makes me a better candidate. I worked in not one but several facets of law enforcement from corrections to detective. I think that diverse training makes me better able to serve the citizens of Westlake.”And, if elected, both Pitre and Cryer plan to get right down to business. Cryer says, “Drugs are probably the root of all the crime. And I think if we can cut those roots, then we can solve a lot of crime. I like to make sure our guys are out there actively patrolling the street,s getting to know the people and actively patrolling our buisnesses.” Pitre says, “I like to go back to community policing. I also like to start a program for the senior citizens called the you okay program.”Both candidates say filling Police Chief “Stitch” Guillory shoes will be tough, but they ready for the challenge. Pitre says, “He was a people person, and he met with a lot of people. He loved the kids.” Cryersays, “Halt Herford and Chief Guillory have been two outstanding chiefs, and anyone that comes in here will have big shoes to fill; but I think I can do that.”For a look at the other races on the November 2nd ballot, go to KPLC page.
