ERIE, Pa. A local store is providing clothes and household items for free.
Located inside the Elmwood Avenue Presbyterian Church, Erie Free Store began serving the community with the mission to provide items for free with no questions asked.
The store only requests that you what you need, be kind and pay it forward. year after opening, the store celebrated its one year anniversary on Monday. The store is thriving as it serves up to 70 families a month.
People like Erie Resident Kathy Schroeder visit regularly. She searches for clothes and other items for herself and her family, which includes two kids at home.
“It helps me out a lot when you got a family and you don have a lot of income. So, you have to do what you have to do, said Schroeder. it a blessing.”
organizer and founder of Erie Free Store, said, “There different reasons that people might need something. And it been really encouraging to see all of that, as well as to see all of the donations that keep coming in. from area organizations joined the celebration, including Milestones Children Consignment, State Farm Insurance Agent Brandon Fresch and Erie County Department of Health. LIFE NWPA also served guests chili and soup.
The store is currently in need of new to gently used winter clothing, such as boots, gloves,
coats and sweaters. It is also accepting other winter items like blankets.
